Our client wishes to create a 12 point trail around the Gardens to encourage visitors to explore parts which are less well visited than others. Our brief was to create fairy tale related characters which would not detract from the gardens, were external, unsupervised and could be created and installed within budget and timescales.
We worked incredibly closely with the Garden team at Alnwick as it was essential to have full team support and input to ensure that the creations we developed would be not just aesthetically pleasing but were also practical with regard to the garden maintenance team.
The idea of developing a ‘frozen in time’ stone effect to the majority of the characters was well received and enabled us to swiftly move on to sketches which were used to illustrate our concepts to the client, upon sign off we progressed into build. Due to the fast nature of the project it was not practical to recommend client visits to the workshop to inspect progress; instead we sent regular photo updates of each item at each stage to ensure approval.
Within three months Paragon designed, built and installed an attic themed reception point complete with themed storage for costumes for visitors, an interactive bench which creates a sound effect when visitors hold hands, a stone effect column with a copper rose, a stone effect frog prince, a stone effect pumpkin and glad slipper, corten mice installed up a tree, stone effect soldiers marching up a hill, stone effect humpty dumpty, acrylic fairies suspended in trees and a magical mirror room which reveals a magical secret when visitors look into the optical illusion mirrors.
All of these items are permanently installed in the exterior gardens and are unsupervised.
